In our fast-paced world, architecture, fashion, art, and design are constantly progressing. In fact, the aesthetic of our surroundings has changed immensely in the last 30+ years. Yet when I walk into a supermarket, what awaits me are shelves full of the same old packaging in dire need of a makeover. Even when new food trends are introduced to the market, only a select few products manage to distinguish themselves; most rely on dated fine-foods packaging and brand design. Some brands do stand out, such as Mountain Dew that featured a controversial strategy of re-wrapping their aluminum bottles in a variety of new illustrations. This type of design may be attention-grabbing but provides only a short-term solution and does not lend credibility to the product. The aim of successful packaging is a healthy evolution that would look at design through a new lens. "Green" is the only future we have and the lodging industry must widely start seeing "green" practices as a requisite of success, not just an economical option.
